NEW EU REGULATION COMING
From June 15, 2019, newly registered or newly equipped vehicles over 3.5 metric tons that are used for commercial
purposes must be fitted with a new-generation digital tachograph. The purpose of the new EU regulation 165/2014 is to further improve road safety, guarantee competition on the European domestic market and prevent the manipulation of digital tachographs.
DSRC INTERFACE WITH PRACTICAL ANTENNA
It must be possible for supervisory authorities to request encrypted items of information on the truck in operation as defined by the EU by means of a DSRC (dedicated short range communication) antenna. However, driver-related data such as driving and rest periods is not transmitted. If irregularities occur, vehicles can be stopped for an in-depth inspection.
The DTCO 4.0 features an innovative DSRC antenna installed on the windshield. Its function has been integrated in the tachograph. Unlike standard solutions on the market, no changes to the vehicle’s electrical or electronic systems are necessary here.
POSITION DATA VIA GNSS CONNECTION
The DTCO 4.0 has a highly sensitive integrated GNSS modul with access to satellite systems such as Galileo, GPS and GLONASS.
By means of satellite-assisted position finding, the location is recorded at the start and end of the day's working hours as well as after three hours of active driving time
ITS DATA FOR FLEET MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
More than 70 different additional data records can be transferred to fleet management systems such as VDO TIS-Web or VDO FleetVisor by means of the standardized ITS (intelligent transportation system) interface. Whether drivers have given their consent for their personal data to be passed on is also indicated in advance. This ensures transparency – not just for the inspection but also for data protection.
NEW KITAS 4.0 MOTION SENSOR
VDO has developed the new KITAS 4.0 motion sensor for communication between the speed sensor and the digital tachograph.
Together with the DTCO 4.0, it constitutes a system unit and meets the very strict legal regulations thanks to the new encryption system. In addition, registering the system unit with the VDO WorkshopTab 4.0 is very easy thanks to the QR code.

DTCO 3.0 has been developed for the new market requirements of the European Union. Thanks to its new architecture and an optimized design, the DTCO is now even more powerful and less energy consuming.
The DTCO 3.0 consumes less power than its predecessor.
The revamped design makes it even easier to operate. For example, direct sunlight is no challenge for the new negative display.
Drivers profit from faster processing when a two-man crew is in the vehicle and mobile devices can be used to record additional manual entries.
Now drivers and fleet managers alike can communicate with the tachograph: The new “DTCO Configuration” App allows to change parameters and thereby aligning the functions more closely to the user’s requirements such as the local time or the activity after ignition off.

The addition ‘active’ indicates that the functions “VDO Counter” and “DTCO® Geoloc” are activated. In addition to the so-called trip the 'DTCO® 2.1 active also records the position of each start/stop (> 1 Minute). This recording function can of course be switched off or on by the driver at any time and therefore it can be used on a voluntary basis. In short time there will be a service in TIS-Web® , with it the user is able to display and evaluate the trips easily inside the TIS-Web® Portal.

What contains the „1 Minute Rule“?
According (EU) 1266/2009 a tachograph minute will only recorded as driving time at the DTCO® 2.0, when it is the longest activity inside this minute. You can find the complete regulation here:

More comfort, less effort
The fleetmanager start the data transmission directly on his PC in the office. Driver and vehicle data are read out according legal download deadline, transferred directly into Archiv and available with immediate effect – this increase administration costs significantly.
In the past remote data access during operation was only possible direct inside the vehicle. With the DTCO® 2.0 the fleetmanager is able to read out the storage when the vehicle stands and include the current information in his plannings. For that the driver neither must interrupt his break nor night's sleep.

The newest changes of legal regulations for usage of tachographs in the European Union come into effect from October 2011. The main focus of the legal changes on working out of the main issues, which users in this brand are confronted with.
The following applies for 1 calendar minute: The activity (DRIVING, WORK, AVAILABILITY or REST) shall be regarded as the longest continuous activity within the minute (or the latest of equally long activities).
Given a calendar minute, if DRIVING is registered as the activity of both the immediately preceding and immediately succeeding minute, the whole minute shall be regarded as DRIVING.
Due to the fact of further tasks the possibility is there, among other things 255 company specific data locks instead of existing 20, that the VRN in the operation mode "Company" has to be entered once and improved processes of manual entries most of the transportation agencies will appreciate the new legislation.
This latest version of our DTCO® 1381 digital tachograph combines efficiency-boosting functions and legal compliance with the compulsory change in Regulation (EU) No. 1266/2009, which comes into force in October 2011.
The relevant changes of DTCO® Release 1.4 from VDO are:
