This commercial, technical and marketing alliance in Europe between two leaders in the field of telematics is expected to provide European transport and logistics professionals access to fully integrated fleet management solutions, which are designed to contribute to improving their productivity and reducing operational overheads.
Fleet management solutions developed by Qualcomm, such as the OmniExpress™ mobile information system and the Mobile Computing Platform 200 series (MCP200), when connected to the latest generation of VDO digital tachographs, are expected soon to enable fleet managers to automatically and remotely download mass memory information and access it at Qualcomm's FleetVisor™ Web portal.
Additionally, VDO customers equipped with VDO digital tachographs will have the opportunity to access Qualcomm's innovative fleet management solutions through the VDO sales force. This solution can assist fleet managers in ensuring compliance with the European Union's data archiving requirements using Continental's Web-based data evaluation program, VDO TIS-Web.

QUALCOMM solution: OmniExpress™
OmniExpress is linked to a vehicle's FMS/CAN bus and tachograph. It therefore knows exactly where a vehicle is, how fast it is travelling, how the brakes are being used, and more... in fact everthing you need to know to minimise costs and maximise customer service.
OmniExpress transmitts all of this data via a high-speed GPRS to a sevured web portal. Here you can see how your vehicle is being used in real-time. And if there is any incorrect and/or uneconomical driving behaviour, you can coach your driver to improve his performance.
